존경하는 한국재무관리학회의 소중한 회원 여러분들께,

2024년도 학회 회장으로서 저는 막중한 책임감을 느끼고 있습니다. 올해는 우리 학회의 화합, 비전, 혁신에 있어 중대한 시점이라고 생각합니다. 제가 제안하는 올해 우리 학회의 방향은 誠實, 規律, 淸貧 즉 "Integritas, Disciplina & Frugalitas"입니다. 이것들을 단순한 말이 아니라, 우리의 미래 행동을 구축할 기반으로 제안하고 싶습니다.

최근 몇 년 동안, 한국의 재무금융학회들은 놀라운 성장과 성공을 경험했습니다. 이 과정에서 우리가 반추해야할 사항들이 없지 않습니다. 학술대회와 행사에서의 화려한 경향이 그 예입니다. 이는 발달한 한국 재무금융학회들의 위상을 나타낼 수 있지만, 지식과 진리에 대한 겸손, 정직, 심플한 추구로 우리의 초점을 맞추는 것도 중요합니다. 우리의 학문과 연구는 화려함에 가려져서는 안 되며, 오히려 정직함과 학문적 엄정함으로 두드러질 수 있습니다.

이 정신으로, 저는 한국재무관리학회가 선구자가 되어 재무금융 학술대회와 각종 행사에 대한 변화를 선도하는 것을 제안합니다. 우리는 아이디어 교환, 협력적 학습 및 의미 있는 대화에 중점을 두는, 겸손하지만 풍부한 모임으로 전환할 것입니다. 우리의 행사는 그 화려함이 아니라 지적 참여를 촉진하고 모든 회원에게 접근 가능한 청빈한 플랫폼을 조성하는 데 주력하겠습니다.

산업-학계 협력도 재구축하고자 합니다. 목표는 겸손하고 청빈한 방식으로 실무적인 가치를 추구하는 파트너십입니다. 사회 전반에 혜택을 주는 지식 전달 및 혁신을 장려하는 실용적인 솔루션을 중시하는 협력을 추구할 것입니다. 이러한 파트너십을 상호 존중, 정직, 그리고 파이낸스 분야의 발전에 대한 공동의 헌신을 원칙으로 할 것입니다.

이를 위해서, 우리의 비전을 공유하는 다른 학회 및 학문 분야와의 협력도 적극적으로 추구할 것입니다. 점점 더 상호 연결된 세계에서, 학제 간 연구의 잠재력은 결코 과소 평가될 수 없습니다. 다양한 학문적 배경을 가진 동료 연구자들과 손을 잡음으로써, 성실, 규율, 청빈이 있는 한국의 학계를 구축함은 물론 우리의 전공인 파이낸스와 글로벌 도전에 대한 보다 종합적인 이해를 촉진하고 복잡한 도전과제를 다양한 관점에서 해결하고자 합니다,

저는 학문적 우수성과 청빈한 관행이 조화롭게 공존하는 길로 우리 학회가 나아갈 수 있도록 최선을 다할 것입니다. "Integritas, Disciplina & Frugalitas"는 단순한 모토가 아니라, 우리의 모든 활동이 측정되는 기준이 될 것입니다. 이 여정에 여러분 모두와 함께 하고 싶습니다. 심오한 지식, 겸손하고 실용적인 학술 활동, 그리고 협력 정신으로 우리 학회가 선도자 리더쉽을 발휘하여 한국 재무금융학계에 새로운 시대를 열어갈 것임을 확신합니다.

이 중대한 책임을 맡겨 주셔서 감사드리며, 의미 있는 성과와 변혁적 성장의 한 해를 기대합니다.

Korean Financial Management Association: The Vanguard of Integritas, Disciplina, and Frugality

To the esteemed members of the Korean Financial Management Association,

As I embark on my tenure as President for the year 2024, I am acutely aware of the profound responsibility entrusted to me. This year represents not merely another annum in our association's chronology, but a crucial juncture in its harmony, ethos and trajectory. My proposed guiding tenets for our association this year are Integrity, Discipline, and Frugality, or "Integritas, Disciplina & Frugalitas" in the scholarly language of Latin. These principles are not to be taken as mere rhetoric, but as the very pillars upon which we shall construct our future endeavours.

The academic finance societies within Korea have witnessed considerable growth and success in recent times. Nonetheless, there are certain practices upon which we must reflect critically. The tendency towards opulence in our academic conferences and events is a case in point. Whilst such grandeur may signify the prominence of our advanced financial and economic societies, it is imperative that we recalibrate our focus towards a more restrained, sincere, and straightforward pursuit of knowledge and truth. Our academic endeavours ought not to be eclipsed by extravagance but should be distinguished by their scholarly integrity and rigour.

In this vein, I intend to initiate a paradigm shift in our approach to academic finance conferences and assorted events in Korea. I propose that the Korean Financial Management Association takes the lead in this transformative movement. We shall transition to assemblies that, whilst modest, are rich in substance, centred around the exchange of ideas, collaborative scholarship, and meaningful discourse. Our gatherings shall eschew ostentation in favour of fostering an inclusive and economical platform conducive to intellectual engagement for all members.

Furthermore, we are committed to reinvigorating our industry-academia collaborations. Our objective is to cultivate partnerships marked by their understated and economical nature, yet replete with practical worth. These collaborations will emphasise pragmatic solutions that serve the wider community, fostering the transfer of knowledge and innovation. Such partnerships will be underpinned by principles of mutual respect, veracity, and a collective dedication to the advancement of finance.

In pursuit of these goals, we shall actively seek collaboration with other academic bodies and disciplines that resonate with our vision. In a world increasingly characterised by interconnectedness, the value of interdisciplinary research cannot be overstated. By joining forces with researchers from a diverse array of academic backgrounds, our aim extends beyond establishing an academic community in Korea predicated on integrity, discipline, and frugality. We also aspire to enhance a holistic understanding of finance and global challenges, tackling complex issues from a multitude of perspectives.

I am resolutely committed to guiding our association along a path where scholarly excellence and frugal practices harmoniously coexist. "Integritas, Disciplina & Frugalitas" will transcend the realm of a mere slogan to become the benchmark against which all our activities are appraised. I eagerly anticipate embarking on this journey with each one of you. Through profound knowledge, unassuming yet pragmatic academic pursuits, and a spirit of collegiality, I am confident that our association will pioneer a new epoch in the Korean financial and academic landscape.

I express my deepest gratitude for the significant responsibility you have bestowed upon me, and I look forward to a year replete with meaningful achievements and transformative growth.
